Kathmandu: Nepal signed the Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption on 28th April 2009. Earlier Nepal was a participatory country of Hague, with signing it has now become a Hague country. This has to be however now ratified by the parliament before it is implemented full flegedly. Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption is an international agreement between participating countries on best adoption procedures with aim to uphold the best interest of the child and prevent child traficking. Meanwhile more than 200 adoption applications from different countries has been registered at the Ministry of Women Children and Social Welfare and almost 150 children has been listed for intercountry adoption. Sources add almost 25 children have been matched with families and in the process of approval from Ministry.
